Photographers – What online or store photo developing does the best job for photos and enlargements?
My wedding photographer gave me the CD’s of my wedding photos. I want to have my wedding photos developed so I can place them in a beautiful professional album. I am not familiar with which is the best developer. I tried Smith’s,and they were washed out and did NOT look like they did on the computer. I want my photos to have the same sharpness and color as what I see when I look at my pictures on the computer.
Is it Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kmart, Flickr.com, snapfish.com, hp developing, shutterfly.com…? Which have you found from experience does the best job overall?
Forget places such as Walmart. You need to use a pro lab that does printing and nothing else and uses skilled personal. Mpix is such a lab. Many true pro labs will only work with professional photographers, but Mpix is a pro lab that works with pros and amateurs alike.
Be aware, what you see on YOUR monitor is not always what you are going to see on a print. Monitors do not all display colors the same. There are special tools known as monitor color calibration devices that set the monitor color to correct specs. Any professional photographer and lab will be working with a calibrated monitor. The lab will also insure the printer outputs color to match their correct monitor. But that does not mean it is going to be a match for your monitor if it is not calibrated. Even with a calibrated monitor, the image you see is a PROJECTED image, while a print is a REFLECTED image. But still, they should be satisfactorily close to each other.
By the way, you do not get digital files “developed”. Film is developed. Digital is printed.
